Urban mobility plays an increasingly important role in urban growth and development and it the same is becoming apparent for growing cities across Bhutan. The implementation of an efficient public transport system can ease issues around traffic congestion, solving part of congestion problems. Cities can implement smart mobility to go one step further. Solutions under the Smart Mobility initiative will enlist innovative and sustainable technology in efforts to improve mobility in increasingly populated cities. Some solutions are based on searching innovative and sustainable ways to provide mobility to people in cities, such as the development of vehicle management systems and parking management systems, supported by advanced technology and proactive actions of citizens. 

As technology advances daily, there is a dire need of implanting those technologies to solve real time problems in order to achieve sustainable and accessible facilities. To solve real time problems like monitoring of vehicle’s status and parking congestion, we are going to implement a vehicle management system and parking management system. Implementing these technologies in the transport management system will ease out many burdens that the transport industry currently faces. It also allows the public to access such facilities with ease.

Vehicle Management System

Vehicle management systems play a critical role in transport management systems where we can closely monitor the real time functioning of the vehicle. The technology called CAN BUS technology will be implemented for now to solve this issue. Implementing this technology will report data on real time functioning of vehicles to the analytics platform like GUI/App through which we can interpret for the analysis as per the need.

Objectives

  • Monitor and analyze real time performance of the vehicle
  • Plan for preventive maintenance by setting the data threshold
  • Avoid unnecessary insurance claim by analyzing the real time and historic data
  • To achieve vehicle to vehicle communication
  • To help in buying and selling process of vehicle where the data will give the health of the vehicle

Traffic Management System

Traffic and parking management system will incorporate image processing techniques where it will capture the images of the vehicle number plate and its physical structure to run the algorithm. Image processing technique will permit the end user to allow or deny access of the vehicle for security purposes. It will register the number of the car through an image extracted from the number plate to calculate parking fees in the parking management system automatically.
