Group Innovation Challenge Winners

The participating teams presented their solutions that contribute to building the Corporate Innovation Platform.

dhiTECHHACK 2021: Group Innovation Challenge (GIC) formally ended on October 22, 2021 at the Le Meridien, Thimphu with presentations and demos from employees at various DHI companies. 

The application for the GIC opened in August and was aimed at engaging the employees within DHI and it’s companies to collaborate, develop and solve the various issues they come across in their companies.  After an initial shortlisting, twelve teams were invited to present their final pitches to a panel of judges, mentors and management from various companies. The identified problems and proposed solutions ranged from industry-specific innovative initiatives to wider technological services. The Challenge saw active participation and cross-collaboration between employees of the various DHI companies.

Participants from Bhutan Telecom were declared the winners of the challenge and were awarded a sum of Nu. 125,000. They proposed a blockchain software development as a solution to data breaches and manipulation. Their solution recognized different use cases both within and outside the DHI Group. In addition to a presentation, the team also showcased a demo of what their certification platform would look like.

A team from Bhutan Power Corporation won second place and were awarded Nu. 75,000 for their research into mitigating power outages and deficits using Electric Vehicles to feed energy back into the national grid during periods of peak demand of loads. 

In keeping with the spirit of innovation, awards of Nu. 25,000 were also made out to teams that demonstrated potential : Dare to Try, Leading Edge Technologies, and Proactive Honor. 

The Dare to Try was awarded to a team from State Mining Corporation Limited (SMCL) for  integrating emerging technologies as part of their solution. The TTPL (Thimphu TechPark) team was awarded the Leading Edge Technologies award for proposing to implement ML/AI  in predictive maintenance. Dungsam Cement Corporation Limited (DCCL) as a company, was  given the Proactive Honor Award for being the company with the most active participants in the challenge.
