The Department of Innovation and Technology (InnoTech), DHI held its first in-person event in the InnoTech-Talks series on 9th July, 2022. While the department has previously facilitated online webinars and discussions surrounding various technology and innovation topics, this was the first time that InnoTech-Talks invited physical attendance in addition to accommodating a virtual link for those unable to attend in-person.
Under the guidance of His Majesty’s Secretariat, InnoTech brought together guest speakers Desmond Chow (Founder, Singapore Crawfish), and Ben Lim (Co-Founder, SHADO) for a discussion on opportunities, innovation, and the importance of taking the next step in Bhutan’s development. Moderated by InnoTech’s director Ujjwal Deep Dahal, the event guest list included top leadership from various government agencies and corporations.
Bhutan has been presented with a turning point, and with it, an opportunity for change. As the country moves towards its next evolution, it must also carve out a place for itself in the global space. While the country has seen a move towards innovation and risk-taking in recent years, this effort has often lacked scale, and ownership from local stakeholders. Technology and the global economy are changing fast, and without consistent, concerted efforts to keep up, we will not be able to make the most of the opportunities that have presented themselves.
To address these issues, the panel was centered around the theme of exploring opportunities, building partnerships to merge resources, and adapting to thrive in a fast-changing world. The panel will cover innovating and taking risks, the importance of championing change, using existing resources to disrupt long-standing industries, and transforming institutions to become versatile. The speakers will also share personal accounts of how, despite professional backgrounds, they broke into completely novel industries, often helping to create niche solutions to global challenges.
InnoTech-Talks is a series of discussions with out-of-the-box thinkers, innovators, entrepreneurs and industry disruptors to initiate local dialogue about change.
Hosted by the Department of Innovation and Technology, DHI, InnoTech-Talks aims to infuse a culture of innovation and transformation within the nation, one conversation at a time. These events have been designed to bring together people of diverse backgrounds to inspire ideas-to-impact and collaboration to move Bhutan towards its next transformation.
