Join Us as a Visiting Researcher

Since our projects span across a wide range of specialized areas and follow a model of iteration and prototyping, there is a need for specialized, project-based talent. To fill this gap, we host researchers, open-source contributors, and engineers for both short- and long-term engagements. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

The Process

  1. 01

Pick an existing project you want to work with OR Identify a new and innovative project.

  2. 02

Send us your CV, a one-paragraph proposal, a two page project proposal (if you’re proposing a new project), and proposed length of your engagement.

Three lengths, each with a different shape.

Pick the length that fits the contribution you want to make. Length is the strongest signal of what is realistic.

  • Short residency
    2–4 weeks

A focused visit to instrument something, run a workshop, or carry an experiment through to a readout. Best for visitors who already know the project area and arrive with a specific question.

    Typical outputs
    • Workshop or field session
    • Readout document
    • Named deliverable
  • Mid stay
    1–3 months

Enough time to ship a measurable contribution: a dataset, a paper section, an instrumentation upgrade, a prototype evaluated in the field. The typical academic-sabbatical fit.

    Typical outputs
    • Dataset or prototype
    • Paper section or report
    • Field evaluation
  • Deep collaboration
    3–6 months

Co-author scope. Visitors at this length are paired with a project lead from day one and contribute on the team's roadmap. Reviewed case by case.

    Typical outputs
    • Co-authored publication
    • Roadmap contribution
    • Deployed artefact
